Vanessa Fox di Google aggiunge “So we are launching a new site, Sitemaps.org and that will be jointly supported by Yahoo and Google and it will have the sitemaps protocol there. Over time as we evolve it as sort of a collaborative effort all of the information will be there. We are really hoping that this will help webmasters to have an open standard and make it much easier so that they don’t have to worry about one type of feed for one engine and another type of feed for another engine.”

Sitemaps.org è uno strumento che servirà ai webmaster per informare i motori di ricerca sulle pagine da indicizzare. Si tratta di un file in XML nel quale viena fatta una lista di URL con l'aggiunta di un Metadata per ciascuna URL. In questo modo i motori di ricerca (Google, Yahoo!, eMicrosoft) riescono ad effettuare il crawl in maniera più intelligente.

Zillow divanta partner ufficiale di Yahoo. E' stata creata una sezione speciale: Yahoo real estate – tool che permette l'incontro tra compratore e venditore per la compravendita di immobili. Al momento è disponibile sono per gli Stati Uniti. Quali operazioni è possibile fare:

SEATTLE – Seattle startup Zillow.com said Tuesday it will supply Yahoo Inc. (Nasdaq:YHOO – news)'s online real estate service with a tool to estimate what any home might be worth.

A link on Yahoo's site will let users type in a building address and see Zillow.com's home value estimate combined with a Yahoo map of the area.

Yahoo, based in Sunnyvale, Calif., had previously partnered with HomeGain.com to provide information on home valuations.

Zillow.com calculates its estimates — used by potential buyers and sellers, as well as those just curious about their neighbors — based on county records and other data.

The Seattle company launched a test version of the valuation tool in February, and currently has data on nearly 67 million U.S. homes.

Jordan Cobert of HomeGain said the company would continue to provide Yahoo with technology to help people connect with real estate agents, but would no longer provide the information about home values.

Chris Saito, senior director of Yahoo's real estate division, confirmed the new deal with Zillow.com and the change in Yahoo's relationship with HomeGain.

On its own Web site, Zillow.com uses close-up photographic maps from Yahoo rival Microsoft Corp.

 

In un articolo letto sul Financial Times, Terry Semel, chairman e chief executive di Yahoo, rispedisce al mittente le voci su un possibile acquisto di Yahoo da parte della Microsoft: "My impartial advice to Microsoft is that you have no chance … The search business has been formed".

Francamente non ho mai creduto ad un'azione di questo tipo da parte di Bill Gates. Lo scenario di un probabile biopolio, Msn – Google, forse avvrebbe spronato Google a rilasciare nuovi algoritmi, nuove soluzioni o forse avvrebbe distrutto il mercato del search engine, chi lo può dire.
